Vancouver's newest fashion label may be locally designed but its flair and style reach all the way to the beaches and gyms of Rio de Janeiro.
VATA Brasil is a unique line of active wear "for athletes by athletes" and inspired by Brasilian beach wear. Designed locally by a Brasilian designer and athlete, and manufactured in Rio de Janeiro, VATA Brasil combines comfortable, long-lasting stretch fabric with bold colours and sexy, cutting edge design.
Founded by Brasilian competitive freedivers Mario Gomes and Ananda Escudero Gomes, retail and wholesale markets for the line of active wear are being developed by part owner and retail and marketing veteran Daniel Langevin.
"We've designed VATA Brasil as functional, active wear for athletes that would be at home on the beaches and gyms in Rio de Janeiro," said Ananda Escudero Gomes, Executive VP, Design and Product Development. "It's an exotic label with a look that's form fitting, shows off a woman's body and conjures up a Brasilian feel thousands of kilometres from its roots."
"Athletes require clothing that's fitted and flexible," said Langevin. "VATA Brasil's stretch fabric means one size provides a uniquely tailored look for sizes zero to 14. For retailers, wholesalers and particularly online merchants, that means reduced size-based returns and mark downs and increased profits."
VATA Brasil operates retail locations on Richards Street in Vancouver and at Park Royal in North Vancouver. Goals include developing retail and wholesale markets across North America, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, India and Australia.
Vata Brasil's designs have been recognized by organizations around the world, including Munich's ISPO BrandNew Awards in 2007 and has twice been selected to be part of BC Fashion Week.
